St Albans Half Marathon 2019
The highlight of the Athena running calendar, the St Albans Half Marathon, took place on 9th June 2019. Over 45 Athena Ladies ran in the 5K, Walking Half Marathon, Half Marathon and the 1.5 Mile Fun Run! Each run was cheered on by crowds of supporters and smiling marshals, whilst being taken past the scenic country lanes of St Albans. We had a marquee stocked with prosecco, cake and jelly babies in the Runners Village which was a welcome sight after the races and a perfect way to celebrate lots of PBs (despite the very hot weather!).
The St Albans Half Marathon always has an amazing atmosphere and although slightly hilly, the route never disappoints. It was great to all come together at the end of the run and celebrate our achievement together. A huge thank you to St Albans Half Marathon for hosting such a great event and ordering the sunshine too. See you next year!

Cancer Research London Winter Run
Last week saw the first of 2019’s race meets, with over 40 Athena ladies taking part in the London Winter 10K. From grabbing coffee before getting the train to London together to clinking Prosecco before jumping on the train home, we had a great day all round! There were PB’s, first races and even beginners walking it and getting their first taste of that race atmosphere. A huge congratulations to all the Athena ladies who took part - you did us proud!

New Groups, New ladies, New goals!
Last week saw the start of our first groups of 2019, so we’d like to say a huge welcome to our Red and Orange Beginner groups and our Lilac Improvers Group!
We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive community so it is great to see the age range of these groups being so diverse! Our youngest this time is 26 and the oldest in 59, age is only a number - we can all learn to run together.

These groups have an exciting 8 weeks ahead of them and we can’t wait to cheer them over the finish line on their graduation run!

Athena Christmas Party
Thank you to everyone who came along to our first ever Athena Christmas Party last night! We had over 60 Athena ladies swapping their running shoes for their dancing shoes for one night only!
We had a fabulous evening dancing the night away with you all and hope the heads (and feet) aren’t too sore this morning!
A huge thank you to Aubrey Park Hotel for hosting such a great event and to Amelia and Katie for organising! We can’t wait for the next one!

Save the date 30.11.19!
