Athena 5k Virtual Race
An exclusive virtual race for members of Athena Ladies Running!
On Friday 1st January 2021, we will be kicking off the year with a fun 5K virtual race!
But this is a race with a difference. It's a race against yourself.
Including Sleep & Working Smarter
This isn't a race about speed or distance, it's about how well you know your own running.
Can you estimate how long your 5K run will take, to the second?
Entering is easy - simply register for the race, then submit your estimated 5K time via the link included in your confirmation email. On Friday 1st January, head out for your 5K run any time before 7pm and set your phone or running watch to record. The catch is, you can't look at your phone/watch except to start & stop it, so you'll need to guess your pace. At the end of your run, submit your actual 5K time and the closest person to their estimate wins!
What's the prize?
The person who guesses closest (to the second) will win one month's free Athena membership and an Athena multiway headband!
How much does it cost to enter?
Entry costs £3 and profits will be donated to the local charity Small Acts of Kindness
Small Acts of Kindness work to reduce loneliness and isolation for older people in Hertfordshire by connecting communities with kindness. Did you know that just £25 covers the cost of a gift bag that will help keep an older person warm this winter? You can find out more about Small Acts of Kindness here.
When will the virtual race take place?
You can register at any time before Friday 1st January 2021. You need to run your 5K on Friday 1st January before 7pm.
How do I submit my estimated time and actual time?
There will be a link in your confirmation email to submit your estimated 5K time. You need to do this before Friday 1st January.
On race day (1st January), you will be sent an email with a link to submit your race time.
How far do I have to run?
You need to plan a 5K route.
How do I know when I've run 5K?
You can change the settings on your Strava/Garmin to notify you when you hit each km. You could also plan a route which you know is exactly 5K.
Can I walk or run-walk?
Yes, but if you plan to do this remember to factor it into your estimated time!
Do I need to submit proof?
No, this is a fun challenge which will be done on trust. We trust everyone to only complete the challenge once and to submit their accurate result. The aim of the race is to motivate each other, start the year off well and raise some money for charity.
How much does it cost to take part?
Entry costs £3 and profits will be donated to charity.
